So, “What the fuck is this site?” you might ask…
ChronicVacation.com was launched on November 2nd, 2008 - the same day Barack Obama was elected into office - by Eddie G & Damizza. Just like Obama’s campaign was based around change, Chronic Vacation was established to bring the West Coast back to the forefront of hip-hop culture. Of course, Obama was talking about refining the world, while our work involves refining the portrayal of cuss words, explicit sexual content, and drug culture, but shit…you get the idea!
Every day, you’ll get all of the latest music and news from your favorite West Coast artists right here first. That’s a guarantee, and it’s what we strive for. We also bring you guys features, interviews, and behind-the-scenes videos with the major players out here so you can learn more about the mystical music industry and get an inside look as to what makes your favorite artist, producer, DJ, or executive tick.
We treat Chronic Vacation as our playground. It’s the chronicles of our lives in the music industry, and it’s also the spot where we drop off dope stuff we run into on the Internet. If we hear about that 6 player trade that spans across 3 teams in the NBA..the news is posted. If we stumble across some leaked nude photos of a celebrity starlet…you can bet your ass it’s here.
Chronic Vacation is the Internet-influenced, Twitter-infused, Exclusive-breaking-insider-news melting pot that the West Coast has needed for a minute now. And yeah, you’re bound to get offended by some of the stuff you find here. But what can we say? Relax. It’s just music…
Meet Your Tour Guides…
Eddie G - Your Trip Adviser
Eddie G is a “white boy” in every sense of the word. But ever since he heard DJ Quik’s “Rhythm-al-ism” at the tender age of 9, Eddie’s spent the majority of his time listening to and learning about damn near every West Coast record ever made. And that’s not an exaggeration.
After a failed attempt to bring excitement about West Coast music to his suburban high school via the student newspaper, Eddie started working at West Coast website Dubcnn.com. In less than two years, he became a world famous journalist and tastemaker, conducting interviews with Ice Cube, Warren G, T.I., and even his old idol DJ Quik. As Senior Music Editor, he also became very close with the new crop of artists on the West Coast, and is credited for breaking countless new rappers and building the buzz for countless more.
In 2008, after linking up with Damizza to assist in the writing of his memoirs “Guilty By Association,” Eddie decided to team up with his mentor more officially and start Chronic Vacation. Today, Eddie G brings you the music posts, news, features, and rude comments you see here on Chronic Vacation 24/7. You’ll also learn more about life in the music industry (if you’re a fan) and how to get your own buzz up (f you’re an artist) through his “Trip Adviser” blog.
Damizza - Your View From The Top
With over 20 years in the game under his belt, multi-platinum record producer/radio executive Damion “Damizza” Young is “where you wanna be.”
Damizza started out in radio at the age of 12, and he hasn’t looked back since. During his tenure as Senior Director of Programming & Artist Relations at Power 106 in the late 90s and early 2000s, Damizza was credited for bringing gangsta rap to the mainstream. Yeah - he’s the guy who most likely shaped your taste in music if you lived in California during that time. He also pulled off seemingly impossible feats like reuniting Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg for the “2001″ album, breaking Eminem as an artist, and assisting Mariah Carey in her comeback after the “Glitter” fiasco.
Damizza’s also produced classic records like “Lights Out” with Westside Connection, “Crybaby” with Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg, and “Where I Wanna Be” (co-produced with Kay Gee) with Shade Sheist, Kurupt, & Nate Dogg. In 2004, Damizza retired from radio and went back to kick it in his hometown of Santa Barbara. There, he spent his free time developing new local talent and working on a memoir of his action-packed life, titled Guilty By Association.
Now it’s 2009, and Damizza’s coming out of retirement to run the show again. You’ll get to watch the empire of the West Coast get rebuilt right in front of your eyes by checking in with Damizza right here on Chronic Vacation. He’s gonna provide you with the backstage pass you’ve always wanted.
